Domains
Accounts › Domains lists every domain the server hosts, whoever owns it, and answers the first question about an unfamiliar name: whose account is it in?
A domain here is a DNS zone the server serves: it answers DNS for the
name and for every name beneath it. Hostnames that are not zones of their
own (www.example.com under example.com) are on the Hosts screen;
see Hosts and services.
The screen
The list shows each domain, its owner and when it was created, 50 to a page, and filters by Domain (any part of the name). The owner is the account that holds the zone, with a link to its page, or System for a zone of the server's own.
A domain's page shows the same: the domain, the owner, its ID and when it was created. The zone's records and their state at the name servers are not here; they are on the DNS Records screen, and a zone whose records did not reach the name servers shows on DNS Publication Failures.
An account's domains
The Domains tab of an account's page lists the account's zones and lets
you add one. Add Domain takes a domain name and provisions the standard
set of services on it (the zone, the identity provider, mail, the website
and its www alias), which
Create an account lists with the
command for each. It is refused when the hostname is already in use on the
server, and hidden while the account is terminated. What the account holder
sees of their domains is in the account docs:
Introduction
to Domains & services. service:list lists the services of one owner.
A domain, with every hostname and service in it, belongs to one account. The deletion of an account removes its zones, and refuses to start while a hostname in one of them belongs to somebody else; see Suspend, terminate and delete an account. A deleted account's domains can then be added to any account.
Where the zones are published
Every zone is published through the server's default DNS backend. A zone may also live in the holder's own Cloudflare or deSEC account, which the server then mirrors; DNS backends explains which does what, and How DNS publication works the pipeline between the panel and the name servers.
While an account is suspended, the records its holder added by hand stop answering and the generated ones keep answering, so the zone stays delegated and the suspended page is reachable; see Suspend, terminate and delete an account.
