Appearance
Appearance, under System in the admin app, sets the theme of every control panel app on the server: this admin app, each account's panel, the sign-in pages, and the splash page on the bare server hostname.
Two things keep a theme of their own:
- An account holder can restyle their own panel, for their account only (Settings & appearance in the account docs). Their theme falls back to yours where they set none.
- An identity provider with a custom theme keeps it on its sign-in pages.
The screen shows the current theme in a preview box, in light and dark. Edit opens the editor beside the same box, which shows each change before you save.
The editor
Mode decides how much you set:
| Mode | You set |
|---|---|
| Preset | A Hue: Neutral, Cyan, Blue, Indigo, Violet, Rose, Emerald, Amber or Slate. The panel derives every shade from it. |
| Custom | An Accent Color, a Background Color and a Card Color, from which the panel derives the rest. |
| Expert | Every color token separately, for the light and the dark theme, as the theme's JSON. |
Below the colors, in every mode:
- Corners: the radius of Cards, Buttons and Inputs, Small Pieces and Badges and Bars, as a step or in pixels.
- Fonts: the Text Font, Heading Font and Monospace Font, each with its weight, and the heading's letter-spacing. Buttons, labels and bold text stay the same steps heavier than the text.
A theme carries both a light and a dark palette. Which one a visitor sees follows their operating system until they use the control in the panel's top bar, and is then remembered per browser. The theme is yours; that switch is theirs.
The fonts the editor offers are the ones installed on the server:
elpan-fonts (which the panel requires) and elpan-fonts-extra, which
the elpan package recommends. Removing elpan-fonts-extra saves about
10 MB; a theme that named one of its fonts falls back to its base font,
and nothing breaks.
The theme is stored on the server; there is no elpanctl command for it.
